Gloucester Township Campus
Message from the Principal
Mrs. Bonnie S. Durante
Welcome to the Pennsauken Campus of Camden County Technical Schools, otherwise known as Penn Tech!
Our school has been providing career training to residents of Camden County since 1928. Our programs have changed over the years to meet the needs of employers and to prepare students for college. Technology is infused throughout all curricula and a major component of some of our high tech career programs. High school students spend about one half of their day in a career training program and one half of their day in academic classes.
Penn Tech was recognized as one of the best schools in the nation by US News and World Report. We also received recognition as a New Jersey School of Character by the New Jersey Alliance for Social, Emotional, and Character Development and the Character Education Partnership. Penn Tech was the only high school in the State of New Jersey recognized nationally as a Distinguished School of Excellence by the USDOE and the NJDOE.
More than 80% of our graduates enroll in college each year. Most of them enroll in majors related to their high school career programs. For example, graduates from our business programs enroll as business administration majors at the college level. Information Technolocy students become programmers, webmasters, or network administrators. Allied Health Careers students become nursing majors.
All of our career programs prepare students for viable careers. Electric students who continue their training eventually become successful master electricians, owning their own companies. Additional career programs offered at Penn Tech include Automotive Technology, Carpentry, Culinary Arts, Environmental Science, Law and Public Safety, Green Engineering and Design, Printing/Graphic Arts, and Welding.
Academically, our school offers challenging, college prep and advanced placement courses in core subject areas. Our world languages are Chinese and Spanish. We also offer Art and Music classes.
Penn Tech has many activities and athletic programs for our high school students to join. Several awards are won as a result of involvement in these programs.
Thanks to the hard work of our students and staff, our school has achieved the Progress Targets indentified according to New Jersey’s Department of Education for several years, and, therefore, we are not a school in need of improvement. In addition, our discipline data shows that we continue to be a safe school.
Eighth graders may apply for 9th grade admission to Penn Tech. Students who live in Camden County do not pay tuition to attend Penn Tech. Contact our guidance office to schedule a time to visit us or for an application (856-663-1040 ext. 7250) or get the application on our admissions page.
While completing the New Jersey Department of Education School Self-Assessment for Determining Grades under the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights, we learned that our school district has demonstrated strengths in most of the core elements, such as HIB training, personnel, programs and approaches, investigative procedures, and reporting. Any areas that scored less than perfect have been addressed, with changes made to our policies and procedures, to strengthen our commitment in providing a safe, secure, and caring environment at Camden County Technical Schools.
